Marshall Health Network Strengthens Surgical Care with New Leadership Move

Systemwide surgical service line aims to improve patient care, coordination, and growth.

Geneva, Switzerland, 24 March 2026 – Marshall Health Network is taking a major step to improve its surgical services by introducing a new systemwide surgical service line. This initiative is designed to enhance coordination, improve quality, and expand access to advanced surgical care across the region.

To lead this effort, the network has appointed Anthony Dempsey, M.D., as physician executive for surgical services. In this role, he will focus on improving care standards, supporting strategic planning, and ensuring better coordination across different surgical specialties.

The goal of this new service line is to bring together surgical teams, technology, and resources under one unified system. By doing so, Marshall Health Network aims to deliver more efficient and high-quality care to patients across West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, and southeastern Ohio.

According to Regina Campbell, chief operating officer of Marshall Health Network, this move will help the organization better serve its communities. She noted that aligning surgical teams and resources will not only improve patient outcomes but also encourage innovation and long-term growth within the network.

Dr. Dempsey brings strong experience to the role. He is currently a clinical assistant professor at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and has recently served as division chief of perioperative and surgical services within the network. His background in both clinical practice and leadership is expected to play a key role in shaping the future of surgical care at Marshall Health Network.

In his new position, Dr. Dempsey will work closely with Philip Conley, vice president of perioperative surgical services. Together, they will create a leadership model that combines clinical expertise with operational efficiency. This approach is expected to improve operating room performance, support recruitment of skilled professionals, and ensure smoother coordination across facilities.

Overall, this initiative reflects a growing trend in healthcare systems to streamline services and improve patient access through integrated care models. By strengthening its surgical programs, Marshall Health Network is positioning itself to meet the increasing demand for advanced and reliable surgical care in the region.
