New Hospital Set to Strengthen Healthcare Access in St. Johns County

UF Health Durbin Park is preparing to bring hospital care, emergency services, and advanced specialties closer to communities across Northeast Florida

St. Johns County, Florida, 17 August 2026 – Healthcare access in the Jacksonville area is set to expand with the upcoming opening of UF Health Durbin Park, a major new hospital and health and wellness campus in St. Johns County. The project is designed to serve one of Northeast Florida’s fast-growing regions by bringing a wider range of medical services closer to where people live and work.

The new campus is located in northeast St. Johns County, just south of the Duval County line. At the center of the development is a five-story, 220,000 square foot hospital with 99 inpatient beds. The facility is expected to open in fall 2026 and will become part of UF Health’s broader effort to strengthen healthcare services across the Jacksonville and St. Johns region.

The hospital will provide round-the-clock emergency care along with six operating rooms and two endoscopy suites. Patients will also have access to advanced cardiac and radiology services. These capabilities are expected to help meet the growing demand for both emergency and specialized medical care in the region.

A major part of the development is its focus on bringing different services together in one healthcare destination. The campus will also include a 72,000 square foot medical office building. Specialists in cardiology, surgery, gynecology, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, ear, nose and throat care, pain management and urology are expected to be part of the facility. Rehabilitation services and laboratory testing will further expand the range of care available to patients.

For residents, the new hospital could reduce the need to travel longer distances for several types of treatment. Access to emergency services, inpatient care, specialist consultations and diagnostic services in one location can make the healthcare journey more convenient, especially for patients who require continued care from multiple medical professionals.

The expansion also reflects a broader healthcare growth story across St. Johns County. As more people move into the area, healthcare providers are increasing their local presence through hospitals, medical campuses, emergency centers and outpatient facilities. In June, Baptist Health opened its SilverLeaf Medical Campus in western St. Johns County, offering primary care, cardiology, rehabilitation and laboratory services, with additional specialties and emergency care planned for later in the year.

AdventHealth has also expanded its presence in the county with the opening of the Treaty Oaks ER, a 12-bed facility providing 24-hour emergency care. The health system has announced further plans for a second emergency department at World Commerce Center, showing the continued demand for accessible healthcare infrastructure across the growing county.

Beyond patient care, the Durbin Park development is also expected to create new employment opportunities. UF Health estimates the project will bring 2,000 new jobs to the area and contribute to a larger long-term expansion of its workforce across St. Johns and Jacksonville. The development also aims to support medical research, clinical trials and the training of future healthcare professionals.

As the hospital moves toward its fall opening, UF Health Durbin Park represents another important addition to Northeast Florida’s healthcare network. With emergency care, inpatient services, advanced specialties and diagnostic facilities brought together on one campus, the project is expected to support the region’s changing healthcare needs while improving access to a wider range of medical services
