Simulating a More Educated Healthcare Space

The human knowhow is devoid of any conceivable limit, and yet nothing it has can be deemed more than important than its tendency to expand and improve at a continuous clip. We say this because the stated tendency has already got the world to hit upon some huge milestones, with technology appearing as a major member of the group. The reason why technology enjoys such an esteemed stature among people is, by and large, predicated upon its skill-set, which ushered us towards a reality that nobody could have ever imagined otherwise. Nevertheless, if we look up close for a second, it will become clear how the whole runner was also very much inspired from the way we applied those skills across a real world environment. The latter component was, in fact, what gave the creation a spectrum-wide presence, and consequentially, kickstarted a full-blown tech revolution. Of course, this revolution then went on to scale up the human experience through some outright unique avenues, but even after achieving such a monumental feat, technology will somehow continue to produce the right goods. The same has grown increasingly evident over the recent past, and assuming one healthcare-themed shakes out just like we envision, it will only make trend bigger and better moving forward.

CAE Healthcare, a company known for digitalizing and deploying software-based simulation training and critical operations support solutions, has officially joined forces with GigXR, a global provider of extended reality (XR) solutions for healthcare training, to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical simulation. According to certain reports, the stated partnership will, in practice, streamline the ability to implement and manage multimodal simulation for medical schools, nursing schools, hospital systems, first responders, and government. It will notably cover analog, immersive and digital modalities that can be used to create full curricula. Anyway, talk about how exactly the companies will deliver on their promised value proposition, the answer to that resides in GigXR’s award-winning catalog of mixed reality applications. These applications’ catalog begins from HoloPatient, which delivers at the learner’s disposal 17 different pathologies to help them assess, diagnose, and treat patients with like-life realism. The given treatment can be prescribed against conditions ranging from COPD and burns to something like dementia. Next up, we must get into company’s Insight Enterprise Series by ANIMA RES. Here, the idea is to deliver 3D models of the heart, lung, and kidneys for the purpose of revealing the absolute impact specific conditions and diseases have made on affected organs. Staying on the prospect of this series, it consists of Insight Heart Enterprise to show the movements of a healthy heart or the impact of various pathologies, including myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation and arterial hypertension. Then, there is Insight Lung Enterprise, which bears the responsibility to hand you a rather comprehensive look of impact made by conditions, such as COPD and asthma. As for Insight Kidney Enterprise, it basically manufactures a macroscopic to microscopic visualization of healthy kidneys or those affected by common and rare diseases such as CKD, aHUS, IgAN, and C3G. A similar solutions’ assortment is also available in the name of HoloScenarios. In simple terms, HoloScenarios brings to the fore full clinical simulations that mimic the entire patient care journey, from assessment and diagnosis to appropriate intervention and escalation of care. The said simulations include respiratory technologies made in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust, basic life support developed in collaboration with Morlen Health, a subsidiary of Northwest Permanente, P., neurology support currently in development with Michigan Medicine, and more.

“GigXR’s immersive learning platform already unifies immersive and digital training applications into one system, allowing customers to manage a full curriculum’s worth of digital and immersive experiences from a single dashboard,” said Jared Mermey, CEO of GigXR. “Our platform is designed to be further interoperable with partners like CAE Healthcare, including both their digital and analog capabilities. The results will be a holistic approach to simulation that combines analog and digital – and the right simulation technique to be used at the appropriate time whether inside or outside of the sim center.”

Hold on, we still have a few bits left to unpack. You see, we still haven’t discussed GigXR’s DICOM XR Library, which has all the necessary means to transform CT scans and MRIs into hyper-realistic 3D models for teaching, training and simulation. Joining it in the mix is a specialized solution called HoloHuman, a solution capable of providing one whole-body anatomy hologram with over 4,500 named and described structures across 12 body systems. Now, the company’s excellence in actually providing these solutions under practical circumstances can also be verified once you consider that it, at present, serves over 70 enterprise-scale healthcare institutions across four continents, including Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine, Miami Dade College, Ursuline College, The University of Queensland, and many more.

Moving on to how CAE Healthcare makes this collaboration all the more important, the company’s case is largely made by an ability to let healthcare students and clinical professionals across the professional life cycle access integrated education and training solutions. Focused on helping them develop practical experience in simulated environments before treating patients, the company currently offers surgical and imaging simulation, curriculum, the CAE LearningSpace audiovisual and center management platform, highly realistic adult, pediatric and baby patient simulators, and a lot more. CAE Healthcare, in its own, has a sizeable footprint, which packs together hospitals, medical schools, nursing schools, defense forces and societies, and it does in more than 80 countries.

“We see the future of simulation as multimodal, encompassing physical, digital, virtual and immersive products that leverage emerging technologies like Generative AI to provide comprehensive solutions for learning efficiency,” said Jeff Evans, President of CAE Healthcare. “As we work to implement this vision we are balancing investments in CAE Healthcare products while also looking at best-of-breed players in the market that we should partner with to accelerate this transition. By partnering with GigXR, we are enabling a core part of this vision through ‘simulation everywhere’ to make training and education more accessible and efficient to ultimately improve learning and patient safety.”
