Stepping Up the Defense on Healthcare Frontlines

The human knowhow has no conceivable boundaries, and yet it still doesn’t hold anything more valuable than our ability to grow on a consistent basis. We say this because the stated ability has already fetched the world some huge milestones, with technology appearing as a major member of the group. The reason why technology enjoys such an esteemed stature among people is, by and large, predicated upon its skill-set, which guided us towards a reality that nobody could have ever imagined otherwise. Nevertheless, if we look up close for a second, it will become clear how the whole runner was also very much inspired from the way we applied those skills across a real world environment. The latter component was, in fact, what gave the creation a spectrum-wide presence, and consequentially, kickstarted a full-blown tech revolution. Of course, this revolution then went on to scale up the human experience through some outright unique avenues, but even after achieving such a monumental feat, technology will somehow continue to produce the right goods. The same has grown increasingly evident in recent times, and assuming one new healthcare-themed development shakes out just like we envision, it will only make that trend bigger and better moving forward.

Axon, the global public safety technology leader, has officially announced the launch of a new generation body camera which is designed to serve frontline workers in healthcare facilities and other retail locations. Named as AXON Body Workforce, the stated body camera markedly leverages the same life-saving technology that happens to have the trust of more than 2,000 law enforcement agencies around the world. Talk about the device on a slightly deeper level, it boasts a lightweight and customizable design, as well as has openness to integration with Axon’s industry-leading real-time operations and evidence management technology. This means AXON Body Workforce camera can easily play an important across a wide set of use cases, and we begin from how it can deter and de-escalate incidents of attack. You see, by capturing high-quality video evidence of employee-customer interactions, the device ensures optimal employee protection at all times. Making this objective even more achievable is a fact that workers just have to do a simple double tap to activate the camera and put it out there to record potentially critical moments. Next up, we must get into the device’s real-time capabilities that go a long way when the agenda is to hand employees a channel which they can use to ask for help without any delay whatsoever. Then, there is the objective of promoting transparency. The objective in question basically helps you manage high-quality, easily searchable footage in Axon Evidence, and owing to that, gain transparency into all interactions. Such a mechanism becomes all the more useful when you take into account how one can upload manage and share footage both internally, and externally with Law Enforcement and District Attorneys to keep the workers safe. Not just that, the video evidence acquired from the camera can also come in handy for upholding pre-defined standards, clear up claims or disputes, and build a library of in-field footage for ongoing training.

“The new Axon Body Workforce body-worn camera is not only useful for promoting frontline workers’ safety, but also aids law enforcement agencies responding to the recent rise in violence in healthcare, retail and other commercial settings by providing easily accessible digital evidence,” said Renee Hall, Former Chief of the Dallas Police Department. “This solution shows Axon’s continued commitment to keeping our communities secure as public safety challenges evolve.”

The development provides an interesting follow-up to one survey conducted by Axon which found that, in the US alone, a staggering 47% of retail workers have experienced violent incidents on the job. Another detail contextualizing the importance of this camera across a healthcare setting is how, on average, two nurses every hour are assaulted, making nurses nine times more likely to experience workplace violence than any other profession. Given the comprehensive risk, we are witnessing a widespread adoption of body cameras. Amidst this, Axon has emerged as a clear leader on the back of its 33% representation across US hospitals, covering more than five million care providers and patients. As for the company’s latest brainchild, it has already been tested by some of the largest healthcare networks and global retailers. Going by the available details, one of these retailers saw a net 53% reduction in incidents, whereas another reported 47% of active incidents being effectively de-escalated after activating recordings on the camera.

“After deploying Axon’s technology over the past few years in our healthcare centers, I have come to see body-worn cameras as an essential tool for successful interactions between our care providers, patients and visitors,” said Luke Heckathorn, Director of Safety and Security Services at Legacy Health. “We welcome Axon’s development of technology customized for our environment and the safety of our frontline workers.”

Founded in 1993, Axon’s rise stems from an ability to ensure public safety through cutting-edge technology. The company’s product ecosystem, at present, consists of TASER energy devices, body-worn cameras, in-car cameras, cloud-hosted digital evidence management solutions, productivity software, real-time operations capabilities, along with third-party integrations running through Axon’s partner network. Axon also delivers these products at the disposal of a versatile clientele, which includes first responders across international, federal, state and local law enforcement, fire, corrections and emergency medical services, the justice sector, commercial enterprises, and consumers.

“Public safety is about just that — people feeling and being safe in public, including while at work,” said Rick Smith CEO and Founder of Axon. “That’s why Axon Body Workforce is so critical to our mission to protect life. It marks a new chapter in body-worn cameras, built to address the workplace violence affecting frontline workers.”
